JOHN GILBERT - CO-OPERATING MANAGER
John grew up in Brooklyn, NY and spent much of his childhood at his family's home in rural Vermont. Time spent in these two different environments fostered in John a love of both urban and wild spaces, a combination that greatly influences his development projects here in Bend.
John graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in International Relations in 1988. After working in Cape Town for an architecture firm and in London for an entrepreneurial property development company, John returned to New York. He graduated from Columbia University with a MS in Real Estate Development in 1991.
John moved to Bend in 1996, and within 2 years started Acadia Properties. In 2005, he founded Pacific Crest Affordable Housing with Rob Roy. John served on the City of Bend Planning Commission from 1997 through 2003, during which time he worked with the Commission to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which has guided the City’s development code ever since. Now John serves on the board of Building a Better Bend and has been a decades-long member of both the Urban Land Institute and the Congress for New Urbanism.
John is married with two children who keep him on his toes.
ROB ROY - CO-OPERATING MANAGER
RIMA WILSON - FUNDING MANAGER
Rima split her childhood between two very different but equally beautiful places in North America: the mountains of Colorado, and the coast of British Columbia. She completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder and moved to Washington, D.C. to work for National Geographic. After a few years at Nat Geo, she returned to the west coast and earned a master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of British Columbia.
Rima has over 20 years of experience in affordable housing work from planning to financing, and has been an invaluable asset to Pacific Crest Affordable Housing since the company’s inception in 2005. As the driving force behind funding acquisition, she regularly navigates the complexities of Federal, State, and City funding sources. When she’s not cleverly crafting applications (read: obtaining millions of dollars for affordable housing in Central Oregon) she enjoys spending time with her 2 sons, Tenzin and Rio, and her pit-bull/basset hound mix, Molly.
KATY BOWLES - OPERATIONS MANAGER
Katy Bowles is a native Oregonian and a graduate of Oregon State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication. She began her career working for R&H Construction in Portland and relocated to Bend when R&H opened its Bend office. An interest in alternative energy and the opportunity to focus her career towards marketing took Katy to IdaTech, a fuel cell system developer, where she was Marketing Communications Manager. After starting a family, Katy stepped down from her position at IdaTech, but soon began working again in marketing for WindowAlert and volunteered extensively in her children’s school.
Katy joined Pacific Crest Affordable Housing in 2016 and is thankful to be a part of company that is filling a need in Bend for affordable housing. In her spare time, Katy enjoys all that Bend has to offer with her family.
BEN BERGANTZ - RESIDENT SERVICES COORDINATOR
Ben hails from Buffalo, NY. He received an B.A. in Religious Studies from Brown University in 2007, where he spent time working in Residential Life and managed an experiential education backpacking program. Growing up in a lacrosse hotbed, Ben developed a love for the game which he keeps alive by serving locally as a boys lacrosse coach. He moved to Bend in 2008, drawn like many others to the close access to the outdoors. He received an M.A.T. from Oregon State University, Cascades in 2014.
Ben brings to the Pacific Crest table professional experience from a variety of roles in therapeutic, educational, athletic, and wilderness settings. Impressed by the profound impact that stable, affordable housing can have on people’s lives, he is excited about building community partnerships that connect residents with resources and services to provide greater opportunity and increased quality of life.
MELISSA SCHULTZ - KEEPER OF THE BOOKS
After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management in 2000, Melissa wasn’t quite ready to define her career, but she was ready for adventure! Looking to make a positive contribution to a new community, she signed up for a year of volunteer work through the AmeriCorps VISTA program in Bend, Oregon.
After completing her volunteer commitment, Melissa decided to stay in Oregon and make Bend home. She began bookkeeping for her now-husband's landscape company, and unbeknownst to her at the time, Melissa’s career had begun!
Now, 13 years later, she is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor and manages the books for her and husbands’ landscape company, for their nursery/garden center, and for several clients. Pacific Crest Affordable Housing was her first bookkeeping client outside of the family companies. Melissa is grateful for the past five years with such an upstanding organization and dedicated office staff (aw shucks, Melissa, we love you too!)
